Notes on the formation of the present conditional
- the endings are the same regardless of conjugation
- the endings are attached to the stem which is the same as the infinitive without e
- 1st conjugation - the vowel a in the infinitive is replaced by e
- as for irregular verbs, it is necessary to remember the changed stem of the verb
When to use the present conditional?
- in conditional clauses (2nd type)
- Se avessi più tempo, ti aiuterei. If I had more time, I would help you.
- to express a polite request
- Potresti / Potrebbe aiutarmi, per favore? Could you help me, please?
- often in news or newspapers when an unverified piece of information is reported.
- Secondo le ultime notizie, molti passeggeri sarebbero feriti. According to the latest news, a lot of passengers are said to be injured.
